However, I need a working "headless" setup soon ("now") and a container running Xvfb would be headless enough to me.Īs the original maintainer surely won't have time to look into this alternative, I'll do so myself. So this might not be the right approach for everyone, especially on somewhat resource-limited NAS setups. I also have no idea about the resource overhead (in terms of CPU/RAM) regarding the Xvnc and Kodi GUI running. Also, I have no idea if and how that could work for non-x86 architectures. Especially audio devices could be difficult in this setup. This is just some theoretical thought though, as I haven't looked into feasibility yet. It would probably also work for future Kodi versions with little to no adaption needed.
#BEST KODI 19.3 BUILD DECEMBER 2021 PATCH#
This would make things WAY easier, as you can use "off the shelf" Kodi builds and don't have to patch stuff. That said, I think it would be a viable option to me to have a Docker container running with Xvfb (or something similar) and the "full" Kodi version instead of the headless patched one. What do I want? Basically just some kind of executable that I can run from the command line in some way on a machine with no display. Why do I want to do this? Because I have a server/NAS/whatever sitting in a corner that "serves stuff" in my home. Why would I need a headless Kodi? Because I'm runnig it on a machine that has no console (i.e.

However, I believe this is the wrong approach. What is done here is:įrom what I understood of #112 and from experimenting myself, this approach takes too long so those images can't be built successfully on the Docker Hub infrastructure any longer.

The absence of updates hasn't been an issue as long as the major version of Kodi still was 18, but now as the major version updated, this image has become pretty useless. This is no accusation or criticism towards the maintainer, it's simply stating the facts. The last commit is over a year old, so I don't suppose there was much (if any) progress over the last year. Nothing at all has happened for the past year in regards to the headless Kodi docker image.
